Aldrich  Chiropractic Center  is proud to be one of over 1,000 clinics nationwide to offer safe and effective non-surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy utilizing the Chattanooga DTS system. We believe Spinal Decompression Therapy to be the most advanced, non-surgical and pain-free alternative; and we look for ward to helping you improve your quality of life with this breakthrough treatment!

How does Spinal Decompression work?

Spinal Decompression Therapy produces the forces and positions required to cause decompression of the intervertebral discs. Decompression is the unloading due to distraction and positioning of the spine. This therapy produces negative pressure within the disc to allow the particular injury to heal naturally.   The dramatic decrease of pressure in the disc (decompression) can foster the drawing in of a bulge and help take pressure off a “pinched” spinal nerve.

Who can benefit from Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Conditions most commonly treated include: back pain, neck pain, herniated discs, protruding discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome and sciatica. Bone fusion or non-fusion surgery does not prevent you from being eligible. However, spinal decompression therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, those with severe osteoporosis, severe obesity, severe nerve damage, or for those whom have had spinal surgery with instrumentation including: screws, metal plates, and “cages”.

Why is Spinal Decompression Therapy more successful than other options?
Spinal Decompression Therapy affects specific discs as directly as possible to rehabilitate the individual spinal discs without surgery. Discs have been shown to be a predominate site of pain; therefore, treating it as directly as possible makes sense. In addition, we use other adjunctive treatments that have proven effectiveness in back care.

What is the recommended treatment plan?

Dr. Aldrich has formulated a comprehensive, multifaceted approach that includes spinal decompression treatments, spinal and extremity adjustments, Active Release Technique, and physical therapy. Muscle stimulation, heat, ultrasound, and cold laser therapy offer additional benefits for inflammation and spasm reduction. Aligning the spine and strengthening the muscles that support the spine are vital for overall health. The blending of focused traction to the site and rehabilitation to the supporting musculature is what makes our overall treatment plan so effective. Drinking at least a half-gallon of water per day will enhance the rehydration process within the discs. Also, Dr. Aldrich will recommend nutritional supplements that will aid in the healing process.

Why the need for exercises and other therapies?

A gradual breakdown of the foundational support of your back is what puts undue stresses on the discs and leads to pain and loss of function. Strengthening the muscles that support the spine and regaining endurance in them is vital for spinal health. Our hope is not only to help heal the disc but enhance muscle control and support of the back. At what point you start the program is dependent on your pain level and overall progress based on our exam findings.

Will my pain go away for good?

Although there is no procedure that is 100% successful, Spinal Decompression Therapy has a high success rate. Your doctor will recommend that you refrain from certain activities, engage in a certain rehabilitation program, and continue home care exercises as a key to long-term relief.    If you adhere to all of your prescribed therapy, you will enhance your chances of success, promoting a true, lasting outcome. Most patients feel significant pain reduction in as few as five treatments. That however does not mean the healing process is complete, or that your pain won’t return.

How long will my treatment program be?
It depends on the complexity and extent of the treatment and the rehabilitation needed, as your condition responds you will transition from passive to active treatments. Treatments are short in duration, most completed in a half hour. The average treatment protocol is approximately a 5 to 7 week period of time with 2 to 3 treatments per week, depending on the individual's case.
